This is a presentation on an overview of APIAVote, national and local voter registration and voter turnout trends. Emphasis on the importance and urgency of civic engagement work on the local level, how it ties into the work other community partners are doing across the country. Learning style: lecture and discussion.

How do AAPIs create and sustain change? This discussion will define our “base” and the keys to building power for the long term.

A panel of local community members will discuss how the AAPI community in Albany came to be.

Scenarios are presented to the audience for them to decide if the activity is permissible for a nonprofit organization.
Voter Registration 101
We will review the rules governing voter registration drives in New York. We will also learn how to fill out the voter registration card and the mistakes often made.
Rolling Out an Effective Voter Registration Drive
We will highlight keys to planning a successful voter registration drive and outline our goals for VR. Learn how to determine the number of volunteers needed reach our voter registration goals. Practice role playing the voter registration script.
How to Talk to Your Neighbors
Review the best practices when canvassing door to door. Attendees will rehearse voter registration or GOTV scripts with each other in exercise.
Volunteer Recruitment and Management/How to Do a One on One
Review why volunteers get involved. Discuss ways to recruit new volunteers to the organization for the long term. Practice conducting one-on-one conversations. Learn how to develop volunteers and turn them into leaders.
